Period catalogs show a hundreds of designs, from simple to fancy in many shapes & sizes. But by the early'60s, Dearborn had second thoughts.
In many cases, the famous Ford logo was hard to see amidst the spectacle of huge, colorful lettering and/or flashing neon lights. It was decided that a new'standard' type was needed. Today, Harvard Business School might call this a branding policy to foster and leverage customer loyalty. Back then, they considered it just good business. You're looking at a sample of the new'standard' signage which was mandatory, beginning in 1967. Promos like this were sent to all US dealerships, along with official notice of the new rule.
